Bamburgh Castle Golf Club
30 minute drive
If you fancy having a castle as a backdrop, try Bamburgh Castle Golf Club where, as they themselves say, only the views rival the golf. A trip to Bamburgh is a wonderful day out for everyone, so the non-golfers in the party can visit the castle, picnic on the beach, or have afternoon tea at one of the cafes in the village.
Dunstanburgh Castle Golf Club
35 minute drive
No less spectacular is Dunstanburgh Castle Golf Club. Also boasting extraordinary views of the sea and the castle, it’s a great course to play too. Once again, for the non-golfers in the party, Dunstanburgh Castle sits next to the pretty village of Craster with its famous kipper smokehouse, an art gallery, a pub, café, and excellent rock pooling.
Goswick Golf Club
25 minute drive
Further north is the equally spectacular Goswick Golf Club nestling between huge dunes on the coast near Berwick on the Scottish border. Goswick is a hidden gem and one you’ll be recommending to your friends as soon as your round is complete.
Seahouses Golf Club

You may be visiting Seahouses as part of your trip to Northumberland to take a boat to the Farne Islands, but you might not have known about the beautiful Seahouses Golf Club which boasts 18 holes of tranquil links golf. You’ll love the fiendish par 3 15th which has a cove and the North Sea between the tee and the green!
Alnmouth Golf Club

Alnmouth Golf Club is the 4th oldest club in England and the original course was designed by Mungo Park. It has moved since his original course, and now extends to the North of the picturesque village of Alnmouth, boasting distractingly beautiful views.
Magdalene Fields Golf Club
28 minute drive
Only 5 minutes from the centre of the pretty town of Berwick Magdalene Fields Golf Club is the first and last course – the first in England if you’re travelling South, and the last in England if you’re on the way North. Its most dangerous hole is the sixteenth, named “the destroyer”, which is a blind drive only yards away from the shelter made famous in a painting by L.S. Lowry.

Tucked away on the edge of the idyllic Hirsel Estate The Hirsel Golf Club in Coldstream is one of the finest examples of traditional parkland golf in Scotland and is another hidden gem.
The Kelso Golf Club
32 minute drive
If you’re looking for a nice flat course, try Kelso Golf Club. Set partially within the Kelso Racecourse, it’s another beautiful parkland course and was originally designed by Ben Sayers. This course is suitable for all abilities.
The Roxburghe Golf Club
35 minute drive
Nestled on the Scottish side of the border is the Roxburghe Golf Club, boasting an outstanding championship course designed to suit all levels of player. The standout hole is the Viaduct, a par 5 flanked by the river Teviot with the green framed by the famous Roxburgh Viaduct.
Alnwick Castle Golf Club

Alnwick Castle is the home of the Duke of Northumberland and it and its beautiful gardens will get a mention on our next blog! Alnwick itself is an attractive and historic market town so well worth a visit too. The Alnwick Castle Golf Club is just South of the town and describes itself as ‘demanding but usually fair and enjoyable’. This sounds like a challenge to us, so we’ll be interested to hear how you get on when you’re having a drink before dinner back at the hotel!
Macdonald Linden Hall Golf & Country Club

A championship course with some nasty water hazards and bunkers, the Linden Hall Golf course is a beautiful spot for a round of golf and will be enjoyable and challenging in equal measure. Or just come here to use the spa and have a massage to relax your muscles from all the golf you’ve been playing!

The Wooler Golf Club

You must try our local course, Wooler Golf Club. This course is a few miles North of Wooler on Dod Law which gives it views of Berwick to the North, the sea and Lindisfarne to the East and the Cheviot Hills and National Park to the South.
The Rothbury Golf Club
30 minute drive
The Rothbury Golf Club nestles in the heart of the Coquet Valley and adjoins the National Park. You’ll have spectacular views of the Cheviot Hills, the Simonside Hills and the tranquil river Coquet while you play. The non-golfers in the party might want to visit the impressive National Trust Cragside Estate which is only a couple of miles away.
